Mr Kwesi Hutchful, Tema Metropolitan Director of Education, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, said the total figure is made up of 4,257 boys and 4,495 girls.

Mr Hutchful said out of the total, 5,023 candidates were registered from the 68 public basic schools in the Metropolis, while 3, 729 candidates also registered from 134 private schools.

The Metropolitan Director of Education said that the examinations were being conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in 31 centres within the Metropolis.

He advised the candidates to have good night sleeps to relax their brains before setting out for the next day's papers and urged them to report on time for the examinations, and to also adhere to all the rules and regulations of the examinations.

Mr Hutchful said apart from some delays in conveying examination materials to some centres, the Metropolis has since Monday recorded incident-free examinations.

The examinations took off smoothly on Monday at all the centres visited by the GNA in the Metropolis, which included Chemu SHS A & B, Twedaase JHS and Our Lady of Mercy SHS (OLAMS) Centres.
