WBO Light-Heavyweight Fight - Banku Disqualified!

In less than a week after his hopes were raised with a potential world title chance, Braimah ‘Bukom Banku’ Kamoko has been struck by hard luck, with his chance in virtual jeopardy.

Official posting on the respected boxing website, boxrec.com, has confirmed Serbia-born German, Robin Krasniqi, as opponent for World Boxing Organisation (WBO) light-heavyweight champion, Nathan Cleverly, on April 28 instead of Banku.

The schedule, at least for the moment, puts on hold any chance of Banku fighting the current champion in the immediate future, but sources say the opportunity may have been lost for good.

Handlers of the 31-year-old Ghanaian boxing entertainer have confirmed news, but say they are keeping their fingers crossed for another opportunity at a later date.

Banku’s chance at the world title had been sanctioned by the WBO itself, according to sources within the camp of Banku’s promoters and managers, GoldenMike Promotions and GoldenConcepts Management respectively.

At the time, the sources indicated, Cleverly’s camp had raised issues of health against Banku for which his handlers dispatched a comprehensive medical report to the WBO.

Upon that action, the fight sanctioned, and Cleverly’s promoters were advised to liaise with the promoters of Banku for an April 28 fight.

But the camp of the champion maintained a hard stance, although the medical report proved that Banku was not suffering the kind of eye problem they might have thought.

It appears, however, that the champion who won the title on May 19, 2011 when he stopped Aleksy Kuziemski in four rounds at the 02 Arena in Greenwich, London, in his native Britain might be running from the undefeated Banku who has ammased a record of 23 victories in as many fights, 16 of them by knockout.
