Yorogo (UE), April 10, GNA- Citi FM, Accra-based private radio station, on Monday presented food and learning materials valued at 3,000 Ghana Cedis, and 2,000 Ghana cedis to the Mama Lardy Orphanage at Yorogo, near Bolgatanga, in the Upper East Region.

The food items include bags of rice, maize, beverages, sugar, biscuits, sweets, toiletries and books.

Additionally, about 45 inmates of the Orphanage were taken through eye test and medical screening to find out their sugar level, high blood pressure, teeth and skin situation as part of this year's Easter celebration.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Richard Mensah, the Parliamentary Correspondent of the radio station, said the donation formed part of the social responsibility of Citi FM to the less privileged in society.

He said Citi FM through its Orphanage Project, supported by its listeners, has assisted orphanages throughout the country.

Mr Mensah said plans were far at foot by Citi FM to raise funds to construct small skills resource centre, estimated to cost about 100, 000 Ghana cedis, to help empower orphans and the deprived to be on their own..

A board member of the Orphanage, Naba Apambila Aberima II, commended Citi FM for the kind gesture and appealed to other organizations and philanthropists to come to the aid of the facility.

The founder of the orphanage, Mama Lardy Ayine, said apart from the 45 orphans, the facility was also supporting other orphans in the area.

She paid tribute to Afrikids Ghana, a Child Rights non-governmental organization, for paying school fees, providing school uniforms, footing bills of National Health Insurance premiums for the inmates.

The Head of Partner Project of Afrikids Ghana, Mr David Pwalva, said the group would continue to offer support for the orphanage, and added that plans were far advanced to sustain sponsorship for the orphanage when its UK donors withdraw.
