Akyeremade raises GH¢6,500.00 in aid of self-help projects

Akyeremade (Ash), April 10, GNA – The chiefs and people of Akyeremade in the Bekwai Municipality realized an amount of GH¢6,500.00 at an annual fund-raising durbar held in aid of the implementation of the community's five-year development programme.

Projects lined up under this are the construction of a clinic, market and a football park, extension of electricity to newly developed areas and refurbishment of school blocks and a community centre.

Mr Benjamin Boachie Duah, the Unit Committee Chairman, said each family is paying GH¢400.00 to finance the programme.

He said already they had finished with the construction of the football pitch and this cost GH¢6,200.00 to complete.

The funding came from Mr Patrick Adu-Gyamfi, Chief Executive of the Century Water Company, who in addition, has donated 20 electric poles, bulbs and electricity cables for the power extension.

He said they are determined to carry through with the projects within the set time frame.

Nana Boamah Darko, the Krontihene, called on all the citizens to identify with programme to facelift the town.

It is important for them to acknowledge that it is only when they take the initiative to help themselves that they could expect support from the municipal assembly and the government.

They should also be law abiding and uphold the cherished traditions and cultural practices of the area.

Nana Samanhia Amankwaa Opambour, the Nkosuohene, who made a personal donation of GH¢1,000.00 pledged to mobilize resources to aid the execution of the projects.

Mr Adu-Gyamfi, himself a citizen of the town and the Bekwai Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asked the people, particularly the youth to take pride for their spirit of volunteerism.
