No Rawlings, no vote – NDC supporters

Citi News is reliably informed that some NDC supporters nationwide are refusing to participate in the ongoing biometric exercise because they are yet to be convinced that the party's founder Jerry Rawlings will be joining the 2012 campaign trail.

Reports are that the northern regions are the worse hit areas where some NDC supporters are threatening not to vote if the party's founder does not take a centre stage in the campaigns.

A Deputy National Organizer of the Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR), Hardi Ibrahim today raised this concern in an exclusive interview with Citi News at the FONKAR headquarters in Accra.

He said, 'People refuse to go out and register because they are aware that the founder is not going to take part in the NDC campaigns; the founder has a problem with the party and that is what we are still working on.'

He added, 'You know he believes that the NDC was laid on the principles and values of conviction and those principles have been thrown onto the docks and he still has an issue with the leadership of the party; we are still waiting to see whether the people leading us will be able to pass the test of probity and accountability.'

'If they are able to pass the test I see no reason why the party's founder will not join the campaign.'

On the issue of regional Ministers and some chiefs' resolve to reconcile the Rawlingses and the party's leader President John Mills, Ibrahim said: 'Those leading us they know how they will bring the reconciliation because the founder and the first family are aware of what is going on and the party hierarchy if they really want peace or unity they know what to do to bring the party together.'

He stressed, 'We are not disassociating ourselves from the NDC because it is the biggest legacy of Jerry Rawlings, but there are a lot of people in government who are interested in keeping the party weak so that is what we are fighting for; we are members of NDC today and tomorrow but those who have vested interest in keeping the party weak that is our problem.'

Citi News can confirm that FONKAR's national executives were locked up in a meeting Wednesday at its headquarters to deliberate on the group's way forward.
