ISAAC OSEI, Member of Parliament (MP) Subin constituency in the Ashanti region, has expressed concern over acts of hooliganism allegedly perpetrated by National Democratic Congress (NDC) thugs in some polling stations, undermining the on-going biometric voters' registration process in Kumasi.

He mentioned the Asafo Goil filling station and old Santasi taxi rank as some of the polling stations where the alleged NDC thugs had gone on rampage to disrupt the registration exercise.

'In one instance, the Subin constituency Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Prince Boateng, was assaulted by a known NDC macho man popularly known as Cedi,' the MP said.

Mr. Osei recalled how Cedi cracked the head of another NPP man, Thomas Ekow Sackey during the 2008 electioneering activities and walked away freely without being arrested.

Speaking to the paper recently, the MP asked supporters of the NPP not to retaliate the violent acts being committed by the NDC but should continue to register as law abiding citizens of the country.

He pointed out that the opposition NPP did not need electoral strategies and tactics laced with violent activities to garner massive votes in its strongholds in order to win the 2012 elections.

'NPP has no interest in instigating violence in its strongholds like the Ashanti region especially in my Subin constituency where I won over 70 percent of the valid votes cast in the 2008 parliamentary poll,' he stated.

According to the MP, the NPP mantra of 'all die be die' was not a call for party supporters to engage in violent confrontations but rather a call for them, as responsible people of the country, to stand up to their rights.

Isaac Osei stated that NPP would not shirk its responsibilities, so he called on the NDC party to condemn those acts of violence and intimidation against law-abiding citizens of the country.

In his opinion, violence during electioneering had nothing to do with politics but had everything to do with criminal action.

He stressed that violence was a backward and outmoded way of doing politics, calling on the police to deal ruthlessly with offenders.

The Subin MP pointed out that politics was a competition of ideas, plans, manifestoes and personalities and certainly not about violence or who was physically strong.

He thanked the police for reacting swiftly to those vicious attacks perpetrated by the NDC thugs.

The MP urged all citizens in Kumasi to register massively so as to get the opportunity to exercise their franchise during the December polls.
