Who was Jamiel Shaw, Jr.?

The Los Angeles Times reported: “Jamiel Shaw Jr., 17, a black youth, was shot in the head and back at 2150 Fifth Ave. in Arlington Heights at about 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 2 (2008). According to police, Jamiel was walking home when two Latino men jumped out of a white car and approached him. He was asked what gang he belonged to; when he failed to respond quickly enough, they shot him. The men sped away in the white car north on Fifth Avenue, according to Officer Kate Lopez of LAPD's media relations office. Jamiel's father heard the shots and ran out. He stayed by his son until medical personnel arrived, Lopez said. A perpetrator was apprehended according to ABC News:

“Nineteen-year-old Pedro Espinoza was arrested Friday and appeared in court Tuesday for arraignment, but it was postponed until March 25 (2008) at his request while a public defender is assigned to him. Espinoza is a 'documented member' of the 18th Street gang.”

Have you heard of Al Sharpton, the NAACP, “Black Leadership” in Los Angeles protesting, rallying, marching, press conferencing, yelling, screaming, etc. after Jamiel was murdered. Remember seeing any signs saying “Justice for Jamiel”? I heard the chirping of crickets and the signs were non-existent.

Who were Ofemi Hightower, Terrance Aeriel and Deshawn Harvey?

The Foreign National Crime Center reported: “On 4 August 2007, four (Black) Delaware State students were lined up against the wall and shot in execution style fashion. Dashon Harvey, 20, Terrance Aeriel, 18, and Iofemi Hightower, 20, were all killed. Despite being shot in the face and slashed with a knife, 19-year-old Natasha Aeriel, 19, survived the attack and was able to help police identify perpetrators.

“The victims were all forced to kneel by a wall behind Mount Vernon School in Newark where they were each shot in the head.

“All the victims were from Newark; and all would soon either start or resume their lives away from the violent city, at a college hundreds of miles away.

“Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow said that none of the victims had criminal records and went to the lot behind Mount Vernon School that Saturday night to hang out and listen to music.

“Ofemi Hightower been accepted Thursday to Delaware State University after two years of rejection letters. Terrance Aerial was a business major there and an ordained minister, while his sister Natasha was to depart for Dover after the weekend to return to summer classes and a job at a Subway sandwich shop. Deshawn Harvey was also due back at the university this week for his job in the school's administration building.

“Six perpetrators were arrested and charged for the crimes:

“Jose Larchire Carranza, 31, , aka Jose La Chira, an illegal alien from Peru, of Orange, N.J., was charged of three counts of murder, four counts of robbery, and one count of attempted murder. Carranza had been arrested twice in 2007 on felony charges, but in both cases he was allowed to go free on bail. Just a month before the shootings, he was charged with the long-term sexual abuse of a child, 5, and threats to kill her family. When Orange police arrested Carranza in January, Judge John Kennedy set the initial bail at $150,000, which he posted by bond. Months later, an Essex County grand jury indicted him on 31 counts on allegations of child rape. This time a second bail was set at $300,000.. However, Essex County Judge Thomas Vena agreed to consolidate the charges, and allowed Carranza to go free based on the bond he posted in the original case.

“'He should have been off the street,' Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura. But the Essex County Prosecutor's Office never alerted the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement that Carranza was an illegal alien and out on the streets, as recommended by federal guidelines.

“Rodolfo Godinez, 24, a Nicaraguan national, entered the US in 1992 and was ordered deported in 1993, according to ICE. Godinez subsequently obtained a green card in 2001 and was allowed to stay in the United States despite later robbery and assault arrests, immigration authorities said yesterday. Police Director Garry McCarthy called Godinez 'a principal player' in the slayings and said he would be charged with three counts of murder, felony murder and weapons charges.

“Melvin Jovel, 18, was apprehended a few days latter. Jovel was captured without incident at the home of a relative. About 10 officers from the Newark police department, Essex County Prosecutor's office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement made the arrest. He was charged with murder.

“Alexander Alfaro, 16, Godinez's half-brother, who attended Mount Vernon School, the scene of the slaying was also arrested. Recently a 17-year-old Black man named Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman of Sanford, Florida.

Rawstory.com reports: “Thousands of people marched in Philadelphia to protest the shooting in Florida of an unarmed black teenager, joining a growing national storm over racism.

“The unusually large demonstration for Philadelphia, which was comprised mostly of African Americans, followed protests in Florida and New York.

“The protests are dubbed 'Million Hoodie Marches' in memory of the victim, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was reportedly wearing a hoodie sweatshirt when he was shot last month in a gated community by a white volunteer security guard. --http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/03/24/thousands-march-in-philadelphia-to-protest-trayvon-martin-killing/

White man (or non-Black man with European name) kills Black man = protests, rallies, national media attention, Al Sharpton, etc.

Non-Black man or men (people of Hispanic extraction) kills Black man = ho hum, no Al Sharpton, business as usual.

I have asked for years why does not a murder of a Black person perpetrated by a non-White murderer qualify to be a tragedy? Seems that only when a White person kills a Black person does that Black person have value to the national media and “Black Leadership.”

As former Black Nationalist Gerald Ball wrote:

“I am a black man, a former nationalist. I became disillusioned with 'black unity and nationalism' during the massacre in Rwanda and Zaire during the mid-1990s. It seemed to me, a student at a historically black college at the time, that black progressives did not lift a finger to protest or press our government or the UN to act to prevent the slaughter amongst black Africans the same way they did apartheid, Haiti, or even the plight of the Palestinians. Why not? Well for one, because there was no white victimizer oppressing people of color, both parties were of the same race.(emphasis added) But the main reason was that our black American leadership did not want our intervention in Africa to cost Bill Clinton and the Democratic Party politically. Ball is not alone in his analysis, as Conservative black blogger La Shawn Barber reinforces:

“It is neither profitable nor psychically satisfying to speak out against or address black-on-black violence. So-called black leaders and others inclined to protest have no interest in chastising their own people for living careless, reckless, fruitless, and crime-saturated lives. As for George Zimmerman, who now people cannot decide whether or not he is white or Latino--if you see his photograph you can tell he is not primarily of European extraction, what if his name was Jose Larchire Carranza or Rodolfo Godinez or Melvin Jovel or Alexander Alfaro?

Lest you believe I'm picking on Hispanics, many more Black children and teens have been victims of Black murderers, such as Derrion Albert, 16, or Charinez Jefferson, 17, both of the Chicago area. Black people from Los Angeles to Chicago to Baltimore to New York City are all aware of these murders who get very very very little attention.

Just as Black as Trayvon Martin. Just as young as Trayvon Martin. Just as dead as Trayvon Martin.

Outside of the immediate family and close friends of the victims, who really cares? Many people see the word “white” in the media and the four-alarm racial fire goes off. But in the cases of Jamiel Shaw, Ofemi Hightower, Terrance Aeriel and Deshawn Harvey who were just as Black, just as shot, and just as dead as Trayvon Martin, they did not rate on the racial outrage scale.

What if Jamiel Shaw, Jr., Ofemi Hightower, Terrance Aeriel and Deshawn Harvey were Killed by George Zimmerman?

“Justce for Jamiel! Justice for Ofemi!
Justice for Terrance! Justice for Deshawn!”

It is as if people, such as Al Sharpton and other Black “leaders” would say “If you cannot protest White-on-Black murders, what is the point of protesting? White European murderers validate us, not Hispanic or Black murderers. Nothing to see. Move along.”

What if Jamiel Shaw, Jr., Ofemi Hightower, Terrance Aeriel and Deshawn Harvey were Killed by George Zimmerman?

“Justce for Jamiel! Justice for Ofemi! Justice for Terrance! Justice for Deshawn!”

Look up the word “hypocrisy.”

BROTHER X: WELL LOOK WHAT HAPPENED. A YOUNG BLACK BROTHER, ONLY SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD, WAS MURDERED IN COLD BLOOD BY A RACIST WHITE SUPREMACIST IN FLORIDA, A FORMER SLAVE STATE.

OLIVER: QUITE SO . EVEN WHEN A YOUNG BLACK WOMAN GETS KILLED, SUCH AS CHARINEZ JEFFERSON IN CHICAGO LAST YEAR.

BROTHER X: I HAVE NOT HEARD OF HER.
OLIVER: LAST AUGUST SHE BEGGED THE GUNMAN NOT NOT TO KILL HER. HE SHOT HER ANYWAY. AND SHE WAS PREGNANT.

BROTHER X: I UNDERSTAND THAT CHICAGO IS A RACIST CITY. I HOPE THE WHITE CRACKER WHO KILLED HER WAS CAUGHT AND PUT UNDER THE JAIL.

OLIVER: THE MURDERER WAS NOT WHITE. HE WAS BLACK.
BROTHER X: HE WAS BLACK? WELL NO WONDER I HAVE NOT HEARD OF THAT. SINCE IT WAS NOT A WHITE MAN WHO KILLED HER, THERE WAS NO POINT IN PROTESTING.

ASK BROTHER AL SHARPTON. HE CAN TELL YOU THAT! BLACK PEOPLE KILLING BLACK PEOPLE IS NEVER AS BAD AS WHITE PEOPLE KILLING BLACK PEOPLE. BLACK PEOPLE ARE MORE DEAD WHEN WHITE PEOPLE KILL THEM. BLACKS KILLED BY BLACKS ARE NOT AS DEAD.

OLIVER: SO IN HER CASE, BECAUSE THE MURDERER WAS NOT WHITE, THERE WAS NO TRAGIC LOSS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

BROTHER X: THAT IS CORRECT. THERE WAS NOTHING TO GET UPSET ABOUT. THAT IS WHY WE DID NOT BOTHER TO MARCH, RALLY, CRY FOR JUSTICE, ETC. NOW IF A WHITE MAN KILLED HER, WE ALL WOULD HAVE CRIED FOR JUSTICE.

OLIVER: A YOUNG BLACK MAN, AGED SEVENTEEN, NAMED JAMIEL SHAW WAS MURDERED BY A MEXICAN GANG MEMBER IN LOS ANGELES A FEW YEARS AGO. WOULD YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT HIM?

BROTHER X: YES. THERE WAS NO WHITE PERPETRATOR. THEREFORE HIS DEATH WAS NOT A TRAGEDY. DON'T YOU GET IT? WHY SHOULD I WASTE MY TIME MOURNING OVER BLACK PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT KILLED BY WHITE FOLKS? BLACK PEOPLE KILLED ONLY BY WHITES ARE THE ONLY ONES WORTH MOURNING OVER. GETTING UPSET ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE KILLING BLACK PEOPLE IS JUST NOT AS MUCH FUN AS GETTING UPSET ABOUT WHITE PEOPLE KILLING BLACK PEOPLE.

OLIVER: SO IT IS THE SAME WITH OFEMI HIGHTOWER, TERRANCE AERIEL AND DESHAWN HARVEY.

BROTHER X: WHO ARE THEY?
OLIVER: THEY WERE BUDDING BLACK COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO WERE MURDERED IN 2007 EXECUTION STYLE IN NEW JERSEY.

BROTHER X: DID A WHITE MAN KILL THEM?
OLIVER: NO. IT WAS AN ILLEGAL ALIEN FROM PERU.
BROTHER X: THEN IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. IF A WHITE MAN DID NOT KILL THEM, THEY HAVE NO VALUE. NO TRAGEDY AT ALL.

BROTHER X: OF COURSE. HE WOULD JUST HAVE BEEN ANOTHER STATISTIC. BUT SINCE A WHITE MAN KILLED HIM, THAT PROVED HE HAD VALUE AND THAT HE WAS WORTH PROTESTING, RALLYING, MARCHING, ETC. OVER.

OLIVER: BY THE WAY, DID YOU KNOW THAT GEORGE ZIMMERMAN, THE KILLER OF TRAYVON MARTIN WAS HISPANIC?

BROTHER X: WHAT?
OLIVER: YES, LOOK AT HIS PICTURES.
BROTHER X:GEORGE ZIMMERMAN IS A WHITE NAME. THEREFORE HE IS A WHITE MAN PERIOD.

OLIVER:HE IS HALF WHITE AND HALF HISPANIC.
BROTHER X: WELL I'M GOING TO MAKE HIM A WHITE MAN BECAUSE THAT SERVES MY PURPOSE. THE MEDIA IS DOING THE RIGHT THING IN MAKING HIM WHITE. PROTESTING A “JORGE ZAPPATA” OR A “LUIS SANTOS” IS NOT AS MUCH FUN AS PROTESTING A STAIGHT UP “JOHN SMITH” OR “FRED DONOVAN.” TRYING TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL SORRY FOR BLACK PEOPLE WHO WERE KILLED BY NON-WHITES IS REALLY SHAMEFUL OF YOU. TRYING TO TURN EVERY SINGLE BLACK DEATH, NO MATTER WHO KILLED THEM, INTO A TRAGEDY IS VERY COUNTERPRODUCTIVE. YOU NEED TO BE OUTRAGED ONLY WHEN WHITES DESTROY US AND NOT PAY ANY ATTENTION TO WHEN BLACKS, MEXICANS, HISPANICS, ETC. DESTROY US. NO POINT IN PROTESTING THAT! THAT IS COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!
