BLIND FARMER WANTS SUPPORT TO EXPAND FARMS

Evangelist James Opoku, a blind man, who was adjudged the 2011 best District cocoa farmer in the Sekyere-East District of Ashanti, has appealed to the Government to come to his aid in order to augment his farming venture.

"I want to cultivate other cash crops, rear cow, sheep and goats as well as fish pond in order to become the best National Best Farmer in future." he added.

Speaking to the media at Okaikrom near Asante-Asokore, the blind Evangelist said he was with the Church of Pentecost at Woraponso in Asokore District, when he developed eye problem.

He said he graduated successful from the Akropong School for the blind and went into farming to complement his calling in evangelism.

Evangelist Opoku said, he first acquired twenty (20) acres of land and now can boast of fifty (50) acres of cocoa, cassava and plantain farm.

Asked how he works on the farm, Opoku said all powers belonged to God

He used the opportunity to appeal to the disabled to desist from going on to the streets to beg

The Sekyere-East best cocoa farmer appealed to other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and benevolent organizations to establish training centers to train more disables,

He noted that will go a long way to eliminate begging on the street.
