Fifty seven graduates made up 2 men and 55 women, graduated from the 2nd Image International College in Accra at the weekend.

The college can boast of a students' population of 2,324 distributed across from ordinary certificates to diplomas in Hairdressing, Beauty therapy, Cosmetology and fashion and design. The academy has introduced HND in hair and beauty management as well as salon and spa management.

Addressing the 10th graduation ceremony of the college Nikki Boa-Amponsem, CEO of 2nd Image International said that though vocational and technical education in Ghana is still not being highly patronized, other countries take it very serious and encourage the youth to take advantage of its future opportunities.

“The value of having skills in these times of highly unemployment has become paramount,” she said.

Also according to her 2nd Image International does not compromise with quality. They give their trainees the best so that they will always be amongst the best and also their students get the opportunity to work on the public and take part in assignment to media houses.

In a speech by the Executive Director of the Council For Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) Mr. Baffour Awuah on behalf of the Education Minister, he said that ten years of such education in the life of a school is no mean achievement. He said that it demands and continues to demand a great deal of sacrifice from management, teachers, the student body and the community at large.

He said the new education reform places emphasis on technical and vocational education and training alongside other disciplines such as; the promotion of ICT in education, curriculum development, teachers education, infrastructure development, french and agriculture all with the view of giving employable skills to the graduates from the technical and vocational institutes. Therefore, the theme for this year's celebration: tools and equipment: Requisite for success is a well chosen because a nation which seeks to bring its people out of poverty is closely link with the emphasis that is placed on technical and vocational education and training and skills development.

According to the outgoing SRC President, in spite of the challenges the executives faced during their term of office, developments such as good education, good tutors, skills development, job creation, good standard, disciplines and good academic performance continued during her term.

She said before they were elected as the SRC board of 2nd Image International, the academy was among the few and best vocational and professional institution that is contributing to development of youth in Ghana and women empowerment, and they did their best to continue with the tradition.

Some of the graduates who received special awards are Best Student in beautician certificate, Beatrice Antwi, Best beauty specialist diploma(theory)Edwina Willy Ansah, Best beauty specialist diploma (practical's) Esi Kwansima Otwuwa, Best hairdressing student (theory) Edwina Willy Ansah, Best hairdressing student (Practical's) Eunice Forson and the most forceful student went to Vincentia Botchay.
