Extra-ordinary meeting of Sectoral Council on trade, industry, finance and investment convenes today

ARUSHA, Tanzania, March 19, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The EAC Sectoral Council on Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment is underway at the Arusha International Conference Centre in Arusha, Tanzania.

The Sectoral Council on Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment which brings together the Ministers responsible for these dockets in the EAC Partner States will be discussing among others reports on the Ministerial Meeting on Non Tariff Barriers; EAC-EU EPA Negotiations; COMESA-EAC SADC Tripartite FTA Negotiations; and the proposed Single Customs Territory .

In addition the meeting will consider a request by Turkey to negotiate a Trade and Investment Framework Agreement with the EAC; as well as Uganda's request to de-gazette Mukwano Group of Companies from the list of companies to which duty remissions were extended under the country's list of raw materials and industrial inputs.

The 19-23 March meeting will be conducted through the sessions of Senior Officials which will be followed by the Permanent Secretaries session before concluding with the Ministerial session on 23 March 2012.
