14.03.2012 LISTEN

Regional branch of Friends Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) has in a press conference in Tamale dissolved the group.

According to the group, there reason for dissolving the group was based on a communiqué release by its founding president, Mr ransford chatman vanni-amoah at its extraordinary emergency meeting on 18th February, 2012 held at Biriwa Down Town in the Central Region.

Mr Ayuba Muin, the regional organizer of the group praised President Mills for the good work he has been doing and said that, it was important for all party faithful to support the main party stream towards these years' general elections.

“It is said that a house divided against itself cannot stand'. On this premise, we wish to state that we support the decision by the National Council to dissolve our group since it has become clear that our main opponent, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is doing everything possible to infiltrate our camp in order to deepen the division in our party which to them is a weapon to be used to unseat the NDC government'' Mr Muin said.

The Regional Chairman of the group, Mr. Mustapha Kora (aka Chairman), stated that, there were going to meet with the regional executives of the party to official informed them of their decision and readiness to work hand in hand with them towards these years elections, he urged all members to put aside their differences and work as a party.

Below is the full press statement issued by the group.

PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE NORTHERN REGIONAL BRANCH OF FONKAR Ladies and gentlemen of the media, you are welcome to this press conference.

It has become necessary for us to come out today to clarify some pertinent issues with regard to the developments in our group and our beloved party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

It is said that a house divided against itself cannot stand'. On this premise, we wish to state that we support the decision by the National Council to dissolve our group since it has become clear that our main opponent, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is doing everything possible to infiltrate our camp in order to deepen the division in our party which to them is a weapon to be used to unseat the NDC government.

Let us emphasize here that we are very committed party faithfuls and activists who believe in the principles and ideals on which the NDC was founded and would not be part of anything to bring it down.

It is also worthy of note that our position to defend and protect the legacy of the Rawlingses and the Party is still very paramount. However, as we all know, the greatest legacy of the Rawlingses is the NDC and therefore our decision to put the past behind us so that we can all be integral part of the forward march of a united NDC to victory in the impending elections is indeed in the interest of all of us.

Ladies and gentlemen, our government has done tremendously well in terms of infrastructural development and the management of our economy. We admit that we could have done more, especially in the absence of the disunity within our fold.

Those who have eyes have seen and continue to see new projects and developments springing up across the country. Those who have ears also hear and are hearing daily of the positive achievements of Atta Mills led NDC Government.

Indeed, the strides are enormous and even the bastions of world economic and international finance institutions bear eloquent testimony to Ghana's developmental efforts.

In the light of these numerous successes and achievements chalked by this government, we call on all who love this country to rally their support behind President Mills and his team to ensure increased tempo and continuity in prosecuting the Better Ghana Agenda.

We are very confident that joy and love will resound in our hearts once again as the NDC family shall hold hands in unity with former President Rawlings and wife, President Atta Mills, Vice President John Mahama, the Chairman and all who matter in the NDC to sing the song '…from victory unto victory the NDC shall lead a stable democracy, Ghana our strength in Unity'.

Tears of joy shall be shed by all of us, as memories of love and the true team spirit of oneness will remind us of our motto which is Unity, Stability and Development!

At least we owe it a duty to make our forbearers and those who lost their lives during the days of the revolution through to this day, to hold on to the national development agenda that they've laid down their lives for, a reason this nation is the beacon of peace and hope among her peers today.

We shall overcome….we shall overcome……we shall overcome.

As we sit here ladies and gentlemen, we do not know of any member of our party who is not interested in unity of the NDC hence we must proclaim it; NDC is one and united. No self-interest group or factional interest has a place in today's NDC family.

LONG LIVE NDC
LONG LIVE GHANA OUR
BELOVED COUNTRY.
