Unity In NDC Crucial Towards Success In 2012 Elections
13.03.2012 LISTEN

As we get closer towards the end of the first quarter in 2012, the two major political titans in the country, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are fervently plotting their separate strategies and implementation plans towards the up-coming elections in December. Even though December 7 (Elections Day) looks far off, it is much closer than the eye can see. Therefore, one would not be far from right in stating that time which is an essence in elections is definitely not on the side of all the political parties which aim to make a pitch in the 2012 elections.

Normally in an election year, all parties try to preach unity and oneness in order to present a united and fortified front in the elections. This is so crucial because the bible even states in Matthew 3:25 that, “Similarly, a family splintered by feuding will fall apart” (New Living Translation).

Things have not gone so well for the NDC since they returned to power. I must state that the presidency has seen a lot of criticisms from within and outside. There have been series of bickering and feuding here and there. As a result, the party has spent most of the past three years trying to broker peace to bring everybody on board or at least get every member on the same page.

The founder, JJ Rawlings, is reported not to be on good terms with President Mills, which is why the former occasionally comes out to criticize the latter. Even though this is good for democracy, I would have preferred if a different medium is used. But, hey it has happened, and since stuff happens all the time, there is no point in crying over spilt milk. What is important is to find a way to bring the two giants in the NDC together.

I have heard so many people saying that President Mills has to make overtures and approach Rawlings to patch things up with him. Others have thrown in their different takes on how these boiling issues can be resolved. But everybody seems to have forgotten about the most important person in this conversation. Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings!

I am putting this on record that if the NDC is serious about bringing Rawlings and Mills together only one person has the magic and power to do it. She goes by the name, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. It would take no sweat for Nana Konadu to patch things up between Rawlings and Mills. She holds the key in making Rawlings to let go of any anger, bitterness and hurt. She is the real deal who can unite the Rawlings' and the Mills'. Apart from her, nobody can!

What the NDC folks probably may have forgotten is that Rawlings has been holding fort for the wife, Nana Konadu, and as a result absorbs all her pains. Rawlings today may not be happy with some people in the NDC not because of anything, but because he feels either they do not like his wife or simply disrespect her. Therefore, for the NDC folks to close that gap, its leadership has to do everything to get Nana Konadu on their side by sorting things out with her first. You Get Nana Konadu, You Get Rawlings!

Nana Konadu may be peeved. I guess she may be unhappy. She may even be angry. Yes, she may feel slighted and hurt that all her years devoted to building the NDC party may have gone unnoticed. But let us not forget that she is human. And that if some people go to her and talk things over, she may see eye to eye with them. And if Nana Konadu allows that anger or pain to vanish from her, you get that of Rawlings too, to go away. I am not a soothsayer, but I am daring the NDC leadership to try this therapy and see the results.

I am saying that if the NDC foot-soldiers just get the news that Rawlings has allowed everything to go, and that he is on board for 2012, I bet NDC will win the elections hands down. It is going to bring the energy which is missing now from the NDC. I bet it is going to whip up the enthusiasm of the NDC members. Every politician has his/her constituency, which is why those who normally do not have any constituency do not make any headway in politics. Like it or not, Rawlings' biggest constituency is the NDC's foot-soldiers. They love the man. And nobody can take it away from him. I am therefore, not in agreement with those who want to push Rawlings aside. You push Rawlings aside you push many foot-soldiers aside. It is that simple!

Every party needs its numbers, no matter how big or small. Therefore, it is very important that even before the 2012 campaign heats up the NDC do all it can to unite the party. The party should not become swollen-headed. It needs everybody on board, including Nana Konadu and Rawlings. Nana Konadu is the surest person to patch things up between Mills and Rawlings. He is also the safest hands to let Rawlings forgo any hurt and pain and I bet she can be counted to bring Rawlings on board. Remember, You If You Get Nana Konadu, You Get Rawlings!
