The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase/Asokore constituency, Frank Boakye-Agyen, has donated 20 sets of brand-new Dell computers (flat screen) and its accessories to 10 basic schools in the Sekyere East District in the Ashanti Region to facilitate the teaching of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The beneficiary schools include the Effiduase Demonstration Schools, Effiduase Methodist Junior High School (JHS), Effiduase Islamic JHS, Effiduase D/A JHS, and Effiduase SDA JHS.

The rest are Asokore T.I Ahmadiyya JHS and Senchi D/A JHS.

The computers were provided from the MP's share of the Common Fund.

Mr. Boakye-Agyen said during the presentation that he had been inspired to raise the standard of education in his consistency and beyond.

He emphasised that ICT now plays an integral role in the development of every country, and the learning of IT was one of his topmost priorities, as far as education was concerned.

Mr. Boakye-Agyen promised to provide computers to schools with electricity, and a room to house the computers.

The District Director of Education, Mr. Kusi Wiredu, who received the computers on behalf of beneficiary schools, assured the MP that the computers would be put to good use

In a related development, the MP has donated 12 brand-new sewing machines to 12 graduants of the Effiduase zone of the Ghana National Dressmakers and Tailors Association (GNDTA).

The donation was in response to an appeal made to him by the executives of the association during a graduation ceremony of apprentices.

The secretary of GNDTA, Mr. John Acquaye, thanked the MP for honuoring his word earlier than the promised time, and urged the beneficiaries to handle the sewing machines with extra care, in order to achieve the purpose for which they were intended.

Mr. Acquaye also assured the MP that as executives of the association, they would monitor the operations of the beneficiaries to ensure that the grandaunts put the sewing machines to good use.

Hawa Siedu, a grandaunt, on behalf of her colleagues, thanked Frank Boakye-Agyen for the support.
