The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Okaikoi South constituency of the Greater Accra Region took the area by storm last weekend at the launch of their campaign for the 2012 elections.

The whole communities within the constituency was brought to a standstill when the aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) Mr. Alexander Ackuaku was taken on a float to a rousing welcome from the supporters of the party with members of the communities chanting “This is the time”, sending a strong signal to the camp of the opposing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Passers-by at the rally who spoke to this reporter described the NDC Parliamentary aspirant as gentleman who is down to earth, very affable and respectful to all and sundry; irrespective of the age and the class of the individuals he comes across.

Some of them also expressed their disappointment over the incumbent NPP MP for the area Hon. Nana Akomea.

When the aspiring Member of Parliament Mr. Alexander Akuaku was invited to the stage to give his address, the whole crowd was thrown into ecstasy; sending shivers down the camp of the opposition New Patriotic Party supporters.

In his speech, Mr. Alexander Akuaku criticized the incumbent MP, Mr. Akomea for neglecting the constituency stressing “we have huge developmental deficit in this constituency for the past sixteen years and what we can boast of is a library without books to read and the sitting Member of Parliament is very proud of?”.

He said Nana Akomea and the New Patriotic Party have taken the constituents for granted for far too long.

Mr. Alexander therefore called on the constituents to come out in their numbers during the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) and get registered but cautioned them not to get registered twice.

The Greater Accra Regional organizer of the NDC Mr. Jerry Akwei Thomson warned of NPP moves to incite violence during the 2012 general elections and therefore advised NDC supporters to stay away from their troubles.

Mr. Akwei Thomson took a swipe at the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the issues of character assessment and insults in our body politic.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign rally at Mantse Agbona in the Greater Accra Region some few weeks ago has exposed the NPP's true nature of insult and lies.

It will be recalled that during the NPP campaign rally in the Greater Accra Region, series of attacks were launch on President Atta Mills leading to a Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyampong referring to the President as the “number thief”.

The women's organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Vivian Ankrah in her address spoke on the need for unity in the party to enable it win the seat in the up-coming general elections.

She called on the constituents to vote against the NPP lies and not to allow themselves to be convinced with money.

Other speakers who spoke at the campaign launch included Captain Hamidu Akamba, the Deputy National organizer, Mr. Felix Owusu Kwakye, the Constituency Chairman, Zonal Executive Members of the party and some important dignitaries who graced the occasion.
