Tullow schools Bolga students on operations at Jubilee Fields

Accra, Feb. 28, GNA - Senior High School Students in the Upper East, had their curiosity on operations at the Jubilee field satisfied when Tullow Oil Ghana (TOG) organised a two-day road show in the Regional Capital city of Bolgatanga.

The show, which took place on 23rd and 24th of February 2012, is one of the planned series of exhibitions being organised by TOG, in collaboration with other Jubilee Field partners, in the country's regional and district capital to bring operations at the Jubilee Field to the doorsteps of Senior High School Students.

A statement from the Corporate Affairs of TOG copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday said the exhibition is aimed at keeping the students adequately informed about what goes into the production of oil and the opportunities that existed for interested students after they had successfully completed their education.

The exhibition showcased the history of oil formation, information on all the steps taken in oil exploration and production in Ghana (with a specific focus on the Jubilee oil field), the process of refining oil, and the uses of and products derived from oil.

It said Mr Gayheart Edem Mensah, Communications Manager of TOG, stressed that it was important for people to have a deeper understanding of the processes to promote transparency and good governance in the oil sector.

Mrs Lucy Mbom Awuni, Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, assured the youth of the government's commitment towards utilizing the oil resources for the benefit of the entire citizenry.

“We want to assure the youth that the oil is for all Ghanaians and not just the people in the Western Region. The oil wealth would be used for developmental projects to benefit the entire people of Ghana,” she was quoted as saying.

It said Mrs Awuni expressed the hope the students would take their science education in particular seriously if they wanted to take advantage of prospects in the oil and gas industry.

She called on TOG to use the end products of processed oil to locally manufacture products that would be useful to Ghanaian s to create wealth and employment.

Madison Amokasi, officer in charge of Second Circle Institutions, Upper East said he was grateful to management of Tullow for “moving” the oil production from the Jubilee field to the Upper East Region.

It added that Mr Adam Arafat, Deputy Municipal Coordinating Director said “We thank Tullow Ghana Ltd for bringing the production of oil education to our door step and hope our children learn more about the oil industry.”

It said some of the students, who spoke to the Corporate Affairs team of TOG thanked the partners for creating the platform for them to get first hand information about the activities that went into the production of oil.
