Accra, Feb.28 GNA – Lawrence Kwame Mawunyo, the 22-year-old footballer who threatened to stab his step-father for inciting his mother against him, was on Tuesday sentenced to three months imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.
The accused who pleaded guilty to threat of death was convicted on his plea and sentenced accordingly.
Mr George Kudoadzi, the complainant and step-father of the accused, whose complaint led to the arrest and conviction of the accused pleaded with the court for mitigation.
He said instead of the accused being sentenced into prison the court should convert the sentencing into a fine.
Miss Sedinam Agbemava, the trial judge said even though she has taken the complainant's pleadings for mitigation into consideration the accused is being sentenced to jail to serve as a lesson for others.
She said threatening somebody with death was a second degree felony and a serious issue for that matter.
Chief Inspector I.A.A. Ahor said the complainant, George Kudoadzi is a security man and step-father of Mawunyo and they live together with the accused and his mother in the same house at La.
He said the accused had a misunderstanding with his mother on February16, and suspecting that his step father had been inciting his mother against him, pulled a knife and threatened to stab the complainant.
Chief Inspector Ahor said the complainant fled the house and lodged a complaint with the Police at La where the accused was arrested and charged with the offence.
