Government's educational infrastructure performance peerless-Amenowode

Akatsi (V/R), Feb. 28, GNA – Mr. Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, said the ruling government has within three years, provided more educational infrastructure in the Volta region than all its predecessors.

He said 400 school infrastructure were done at the basic level alone and 200, including dormitories, dining halls and classrooms were put up in the over 80 Senior High Schools by the current regime.

Mr. Amenowode was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of the Akatsi district in Akatsi to climax a day's tour of development activities in the area.

He said the previous government provided only 100 school infrastructures in second cycle schools in the Region compared to the 200 by the current regime in three years.

Mr. Amenowode asked “doubting Thomases” to contact the Volta Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service to verify his assertion.

He said the government's Better Ghana Agenda sums up the fast pace of development in the country with the Volta Region receiving its fair share.

The Minister said the Eastern Corridor road and the Volta University which were the two most prominent promises to the people are on course alongside others such as roads, water and health facilities.

Mr. Amenowode commended the Akatsi District Assembly for its hard work and promised that the reconstruction of the Akatsi-Ziope road linking the Aflao-Ho trunk road would take off this year.

He asked the people to participate in the impending biometric voter registration exercise to have the power to vote in the 2012 elections.

Mr. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, Akatsi District Chief Executive, said 45 projects mainly educational infrastructure have been completed and 36 others would be completed this year.

He said the District Assembly was supporting 63 teacher trainees in school after which they would serve in the district to help improve academic standards.

Mr Nortsu-Kotoe said about 20 other projects were at various levels of construction.

The projects, a six-unit classroom block at Kpodzivi, Avevi and Wlitey, three semi detached staff bungalows for the Akatsi district assembly staff, dormitory, dining and classroom blocks at Akatsi Senior High Secondary Technical School and an ICT laboratory at Akatsi College of Education were inspected by the Minister.
