Physically challenged people in Bibiani receive support

Bibiani (W/R), Feb. 28, GNA – Sixty physically challenged people in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District have been presented with working tools to start their own businesses.

These included deep freezers, sewing and industrial machines, gas cylinders and hairdressing equipment, bags of rice, sugar and quantity of beverage drinks.

This brings to 300, the number of disabled persons in the district who have benefited from the support package put together by the assembly and the Department of Social Welfare.

Mr Louis Bayour, the District Coordinating Director, said the goal is to assist them to earn decent living adding that the assembly would continue to monitor their economic activities and do everything to support them.

He appealed to the assembly members to help register all disabled persons in their electoral areas to ensure that they all benefit from the two per cent allocation from the District Assemblies Common Fund.

Miss Mercy Quansah, the District Social Welfare Officer, said the practice where the physically challenged beg for alms on the streets and at traffic intersections would have to end.
