LAGOS (AFP) - West African regional bloc ECOWAS said Tuesday it is deploying 150 observers for weekend polls in Senegal where protests against President Abdoulaye Wade's bid for a third term have killed six people.

Despite having served two terms in office, a limit he himself introduced, the 85-year-old Wade says later changes to the constitution allow him to serve two more mandates.

Former Togolese prime minister Koffi Sama will lead the team of election watchers, the 15-member Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) said.
