The Convention People's Party is yet to hold its National Presidential Congress and all facts on the ground tell one story that Dr. Abu Sakara remains the strongest of all the other candidates to possibly lead the party in the 2012 elections and obviously defeat the incumbent President Mills and the most desperate NPP flagbearer, Nana Akuffo Addo. As a former Presidential Running mate during the 2008 elections, Sakara has experienced the road to power and has therefore weighed his strength, that of his party and the prospects the party has in the upcoming 2012 elections.

Brought up from a humble beginning in the Gonja part of the Northern Ghana, he has remained focus and discipline to the course for human freedom and dignity. His passion for holistic development of Ghana was most evident during the 2008 election campaign when he had the opportunity from the CPP to lead as Vice Presidential candidate. He stridently advocated for a balanced and comprehensive national development policy that would be insulated from partisan politics across administrations. Such policy would have possibly been shaped by his ideological leanings toward the Nkrumaists fraternity, despite the fact that the national development policy might have been a compromise to some reactionary parties, mainly NDC and NPP.

Sakara has earned a high excellence in professional development career. He is the Executive Director of Rural and Agricultural Development Associates and accomplished Agricultural Development Expert of international reknown.

After 25 years of experience in technical, managerial and policy roles in Central America (Mexico), Southern Africa (Zambia), Eastern Africa (Tanzania, Uganda) and West Africa (Nigeria), Sakara now provides advice to governments and development organizations on the promotion of food security and economic growth, through rural and agricultural development interventions. He therefore consults for World Bank, FAO, IFAD and currently leads the Africa Unions Team of Agricultural Advisory Services Experts under the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Program (CAADP).

Dr. Sakara speaks six languages. He is fluent in Gonja, Hausa and Swahili and conversant with Twi. His working languages are English and Spanish.

Sakara has engaged with fellow Ghanaians at national and community level. He has been the founder and Chairman of the Buwulonso One Stop Rural Bank that services communities in West and Central Gonja. He has also privately engaged with strategic national interventions in Maize production and development of the Shea nut industry. He has now turned his attention to Sugar cane. He contributes to civil societies such as the Northern Development Forum and has been a veteran advocate for closing the north-south development divide in Ghana.

His passion for holistic development of Ghana was most evident during the 2008 election Campaign when as the Vice Presidential Candidate for CPP, he stridently advocated for a balanced and comprehensive national development policy that would be insulated from partisan politics across administrations.

The Convention People's Party sees him as a very loyal party man and has demonstrated his service to the party first in support of four constituencies in the Northern region since the 2000 elections. He has also been associated with the Patriots and services as 1stNational Chairman from 2007 to 2011.

Sources within the party tell that during this period he also stepped in as the Chairman of the National Organizational Committee and was given oversight of Congress Affairs leading up to the 2011 National Delegates Congress. He has recently accepted to serve as the Chairman of the National Organizational Committee for the new administration.

Family sources also reveals that he has been married twenty nine years and has four children Miama, Seidu, Yomba and Alexia.

As an avid sportsman in his youthful life competing internationally in Judo, he also remains a keen sportsman and a fan of football, tennis and boxing.

The CPP has slated tentatively the month of March to hold its Presidential Congress and sources also confirms how the party is preparing adequately for the event. The party is jealously protecting it unity, its major strength and is also stridently making efforts to use the unity to win the 2012 elections.
