NUGS_Central University Officials Should Compensate Students

STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENTS (NUGS)

ON THE DISMISSAL OF 700 STUDENTS IN CENTRAL UNIVERSITY

NUGS-CENTRAL OFFICIALS SHOULD COMPENSATE STUDENTS!
Since the issue of the dismissal of about 700 students came up, the National Executive Officers led by the President Ayariga Osman of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) have met with some student leaders of the Central University College (CUC) Student Representative Council (SRC) to look at the possible way forward without sacrificing the academic ambition of the students who have been shut psychologically by their dismissal for a fault of no theirs.

On Saturday, 4 February, 2012 the National Union of Ghana Students met with the said student leaders of the Central University College (CUC) Student Representative Council who told the Union that, they met with some of the affected students who have resolved that till they are compensated they will not treat the issue of their dismissal lightly. In view of this, it was resolved that the school should be ready to compensate the students for the waste of quality academic time which is precious.

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) will not fall into the sycophantic jamboree of castigating the officials of the Central University College (CUC) for an irreparable fault they have willingly admitted perpetuating.

Also, the Union will not berate the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for their 10 January, 2011 directive which we believe they acted in good faith in order to ensure that quality and not quantity human resource materials are available for our country in the future.

The officials of the Central University College (CUC) did not act in good faith yes we know. And so do we know that the damage is caused yet there is a future for the student and that is what NUGS wants to appeal to the University officials to work closely with the students and the Union in finding a most lasting solution to the problem.

We are also calling on the Ministry of Education (MOE) not to sit aloof while the Union and the students worm their way through in this difficulty. They must get themselves involved in building the confidence of the students.

The Union wants to assure the Ghanaian Public especially the parents of the affected students not to be broken down by the issue but rather stand with the Union in our attempt to nib the crisis in the bud.
