Effutu Municipality forms Inter-Party Dialogue Committee

Winneba (C/R), Feb. 5, GNA – A-27-member inter-party dialogue committee for Effutu Municipality headed by Mr. Anthony Oppong, the Electoral Commission Officer for the area, has been inaugurated to help promote peaceful elections in December.

The Committee is made up of representatives from the Municipal Assembly, political parties, Christian Council, Police, the Traditional Council, Muslim community, Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress and the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCOM) of the New Patriotic Party, both of the University of Education, Winneba.

Other representatives are from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), youth groups, National Commission for Civic Education, Commissioner for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), women group, Electoral Commission and the media.

The programme was organised by the NCCE in collaboration with the Assembly.

Mr. Collins Adams, the Municipal Director of NCCE speaking on the importance of the Committee's formation, said the Commission deemed it necessary to be at the forefront to constitute committees in various constituencies to help stem unnecessary suspicion and anxiety in the up elections.

Their formation, he added, would also help to protect and sustain the country's democratic and economic achievement.

He said the Committee would promote peace, resolve conflicts before, during and after the December elections to ensure political, economic and social progress and stability in the area.

Mr. Collins said the Committee was expected to organise interactive inter-party forums in the Municipality to deepen collaboration among the various stakeholders.

Inaugurating the Committee, Mr. John Kessachin, Coordinating Director for Effutu cautioned the members to perform their duties in a non-partisan manner.

He said they must work to help consolidate good governance and sustain the peace and tranquillity in the area.

Nii Ephraim, Chief Executive for the Assembly, urged the Committee to work in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations to ensure sanity in the Municipality before, during and after the elections.

He said with a sense of unity they could work to achieve the goals and objectives of the Committee and in the interest of Winneba.

Mr. Anthony Oppong, the Committee Chairman, said it was only when there was peace and tranquility, that development could take place successfully.

He assured the public of the Committees' commitment to work hard towards fair and free elections in December.
