Suminakese (E/R) Jan. 31, GNA -The Mpraeso District office of the Forestry Commission in collaboration with the Ghana Fire Service, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Information Services Department have ended a five- day anti-bushfire education campaign in 27 communities in the Kwahu South, Kwahu East and Kwahu West Municipality.

The education campaign was on causes, effects, prevention and control of bush and wildfire in the communities. The beneficiary communities included Subinso, Kayera,

Gyaekasa, Bepong, Measo, Ohemaa, Nketepa, Onyemso, Nkawkaw and Aduamoa.

Addressing the chiefs and people in those communities, the Mpraeso District Forestry Manager, Mr Jonathan Obour Wiredu, advised them to take precautionary measures to prevent bushfires in their areas to save the vegetation, wildlife and water bodies.

He said bushfires were caused by human activities and advised farmers, hunters and palm wine tappers to control the use of naked fire to avoid bushfires and other fire outbreaks, which destroyed the environment, wildlife, and property.

An official of the Ghana National Fire Service said bushfires and other fire outbreaks in the home and market places affect the environment and the economy as the state had to spend huge sums of money to rehabilitate life and property in the communities.

The chief of Bepong, Nana Nyarko Baawuah the Fourth, advised the Forestry Commission to undertake anti-bushfire campaign early before the beginning of the dry season for people to take the necessary precaution and preventive measures to avoid bushfires.
