Sekoti Junior High School adopts Extra Classes

Sekoti (UE), Jan. 31, GNA - Mr James Nabii Debase, headmaster of Sekoti Junior High School (JHS)in the Talensi- Nabdam District of the Upper East Region on Tuesday said the school had extended teaching hours to help the students learn better and improve their performance at the Basic Education Certificate examination (BECE).

Not deterred by the low number of teachers, Mr Nabii said the school presented 19 candidates for the 2010 /11 BECE and came up in the first position in the District.

He said this was made possible through the hard work of the teachers, adding "I hope they would work harder and prepare the current 28 candidates for the 2011/12 BECE”.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Sekoti, the he said the school had instituted what was called two, two and six hours extra classes as recommended to boost up teaching and learning in the school.

Explaining further he said the school would teach two hours before school session started, two hours after close of school hours and six hours on Saturdays for JHS candidates.

He called for the cooperation of parents to ensure their wards avoided absenteeism and attended school regularly to make the programme a successful one.

He called on government and the Ghana Education Service to help the school with desks and text books for the current population of 70 boys and 75 girls.

He thanked government for donating 15 laptop computers to the school to improve Information, communication and technology (ICT) learning.

He said that had helped the school and nearby ones such as Kotintabig and Nyogbare JHS to benefit from the facility.

He also thanked the Talensi Nabdam District Assembly for renovating and extending electricity to the school.
