CPP LEADERSHIP LACKS TEETH -Duku
31.01.2012 LISTEN

The 2004 parliamentary candidate of the Convention Peoples Party in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region, Mr. Paa Duku Quarshie has stated that the leadership of the party lacks the teeth to bite.

The convener of the Committee for Joint Action (CJA) in the Western Region, said they should be blamed over recent twinge the party has suffered in the hands of Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum, 2008 flag bearer and other leading members who have deserted the CPP.

According to him, the leadership of the party should be condemned for watching over the unapproved conduct of these party members who rather chose to campaign for flag bearers of rival political parties in the previous elections.

'They campaigned for the various political parties in successive elections before deciding now on their own to abandon the party. That is the reason the leadership of the party should be blamed,' he underscored.

In an interview with this paper, Mr. Quarshie, accused Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum, Mr. Freddie Blay, 2008 flag bearer and former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament respectively, of deserting the party at the time they know the structures are not firm.

He said the two individuals after serving in the administration of Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor successfully gathered political clout capable of causing serious damage to any political part.  He regretted that the leadership of the party did not realize this.

According to him, he had long predicted the exit of the two individuals from the party and therefore wrote to the Western Regional Headquarters to prompt them and the national leadership asking them to either sack the two or reprimand them because of the level of alleged indiscipline.

Unfortunately, he said his letter (petition) was never acted upon, and the indiscipline of the two continued into the 2004 electioneering campaign. He said because the party failed to act, it gave them the leeway to campaign for the New Patriotic Party in run up to the 2004 elections.

The CPP member now sympathetic towards the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) said, he knew obviously that the aim of the aforementioned personalities in the party was not to join hands to rebuild the structures of the CPP but to  weaken it hence their decision to campaign for another political party.

According to him, what the main political parties- NDC-NPP would not tolerate was what the CPP allowed for many years. He said the actions and inactions of the duo who were not only members of parliament of the CPP in the 2005 parliament but all served in the government of the NPP.
