BNI fails to produce DSP Tehoda in court
31.01.2012 LISTEN

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) have yet again failed to produce DSP Gifty Mawunyega Tehoda as directed by the Human Rights Court yesterday.

The court Monday ordered the BNI to produce the top policewoman who is being held by the investigative body for her role in the cocaine-turned-baking soda saga, at a bail hearing.

Joy News' Sammy Darko who was in court reported that prosecutors turned up in court without the suspect igniting heated exchanges with her lawyers.

State Attorney Rexford Wiredu said other actors in the case, namely the the police and the BNI, had not been served notice of the court's order yesterday.

But that explanation infuriated DSP Tehoda's lawyers who maintained the state was simply dragging its feet and violating their client's fundamental human rights.

The prosecutor then told the court the prosecution was going to file an affidavit in opposition to the bail application prompting a one hour suspension of sitting to enable him do that.

Family members of DSP Tehoda, frustrated by the situation accused the state of abusing the suspect's rights.

Responding to them, Mr Wiredu warned that the affidavit in opposition to bail will shock them.

Sammy Darko reported that at midday, Mr Wiredu returned to the court clutching his affidavit.

More soon.
