47 unemployed youth undergoes LESDEP training in Ellembelle

Aiyinase (W/R), Jan.31, GNA - About 47 unemployed youth who received training under the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, have been equipped to start their business.

The Regional Co-ordinator of LESDEP, Mr Japhet Duga indicated that the programme seeks to create sustainable local enterprise and poverty reduction as well as equipping people to reduce unemployment.

He said persons without work or skills may tend to indulge in social vices, hence the initiative by President John Evans Atta Mills to minimise the tendency.

Mr Duga was speaking at the graduation of the beneficiaries of the programme at Aiyinase who underwent six months intensive training.

They were presented with equipment including sewing machines, mobile phones repairing machines, catering kits, gas cylinders, cooking utensils, hair dryers, barbering equipment and sterilisers.

The Zonal Co-ordinator for LESDEP, Mr Jones Amoah urged the youth to use the equipment wisely to realize the benefits that come with it.

He said the graduates were exposed to business advice, payment procedures and maintenance advice among other skills.

The Ellembelle District Chief Executive, Mr Daniel K. Eshun commended the President for the initiative and promised to establish a monitoring team to ensure that beneficiaries pay for the equipment to enable others to benefit.

He admonished the youth to work hard to make the equipment presented to them useful adding that “small beginnings brings about bigger endings”.

The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah reiterated his commitment to make the LESDEP programme in Ellembelle a shining example to all and therefore prevailed upon the beneficiaries to use the equipment efficiently.

He donated GH¢ 2,000 to the programme.
