2011 in Review: Ghana's Top 11 News

The year 2011 was generally a successful year for most Ghanaians. Even though some major issues like the high rate of unemployment still persist and some Ghanaians complaining of “empty pockets” though undoubtedly, Ghana's economy is said to be one of the best this year. As government promise a fruitful year in 2012 and opposition parties insisting that, they have the best for Ghanaians; let's take a review of top 11 ground breaking news in 2011:

Medical Doctors' strike brouhaha
Medical doctors went a 3-week long strike over government's inability to migrate them successfully on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), including other payment issues.

Mr. Cameron's gay threats and Akufo Addo's meeting with him
UK's Prime Minister was reported to have warned African countries to have proper human rights for gays or face cuts in aids. Ghanaians did not spare Mr. Cameron, with some telling him to keep his aids. The NPP 2012 flag bearer is reported to have chastised Mr. Cameron in a meeting with him and these raised arguments politically.

Anas Aremeyaw Anas Tema harbor revelations
The multi-award winning investigative journalist, “whose face is allergic to cameras”, revealed the corrupt practices happening in Ghana's biggest harbor. His video showed these corrupt officers and clients busily robbing the state. Ghana loses millions of US dollars through these evil acts.

Cocaine Scandals
Substances “tested to be cocaine” later turned out to be sodium bicarbonate (washing soda) in court. Also, two top celebrities: CEOs of Exopa Modeling Agency and Goodies Music Productions were arrested over separate cocaine issues.

Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo's “all die be die” slogan
The NPP 2012 flag bearer was reported to have said that the 2012 General elections will be “all die be die” and this slogan raised “hell” in the country. Especially between the ruling NDC party and the biggest opposition party, NPP. However, the NPP party still insists that the “all die be die” slogan is over rated.

Prophet Obinim's Scandal and 11.11.11 end of world prophecy
Prophet Daniel Obinim, testified that he had an affair with one of his junior pastors' wife but happened before he got married to his celebrity Gospel Diva. Meanwhile, another Prophet Peter Anamoh, announced publicly that 11.11.11 was going to be the end of the world. He managed to flee with some of his church members to his hometown, where he believed, God was not going to send fire. The prophecy never came to pass.

BECE results
The worst ever Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE) results in 13years, were achieved. Most Parents and educationists became worried, and concerns were raised about how serious players of Ghana's education system were. Government has promised to roll out programmes to improve subsequent results.

Alleged NDC $20m head office brouhaha
The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), alleged that the ruling NDC Party, is putting up a $20 million office complex. This caused some Ghanaians to ask for the source of funding of the project and almost every party/government official who was interviewed gave a different answer to the allegation.

Mr. Kobby Acheampong and the Police men's brouhaha
Mr. Kobby Acheampong, a deputy minister of Interior, alleged that some Police Officers insulted him, when he failed to stop initially, after they attempted stopping him for over speeding; because he believes where the officers were carrying out the operation was inappropriate. The minister was not happy with that hence reported them to the Inspector General of Police, through a phone call. The Police Officers were picked up for interrogation and some Ghanaians saw that as partial especially when the minister was reported to have verbally embarrassed a TV host in a live TV program and other similar instances.

Col. Muammar Gaddafi's death
The mysterious death of the ousted Libyan leader raised concerns in Ghana. Especially among social activists and people who expected that Mr. Gaddafi should have been to face a proper justice system, if the NTC led government believed in fairness and proper human rights. Of course, Gaddafi's death was a concern to most international human right groups such as Amnesty International.

Azonto Dance
An emerging dance from Ghana, which has taken that person dancing in the church, the law-maker in parliament, the farmer on his farm, the artist singing on stage and majority of Ghanaians by storm cannot be left out. No wonder the there is a Christian version called christozonto! Check out in Youtube!
