A 15-member United Nations Security Council team led by UK Ambassador, Mr. Jeremy Greenstock arrived in Accra on Sunday to consult with ECOWAS Chairman, President John Agyekum Kufuor on the Liberian conflict and other security issues in the West African sub-region.
In a brief interview with journalists at the Kotoka International Airport, Mr. Greenstock said there was the need for the Council to focus on conflict resolution in West Africa, adding that his mission would find ways to bring peace to the sub-region
He expressed the hope that the meeting with President Kufuor would be able to outline measures to bring peace and security to West Africa.
He said he had been to Abuja, Nigeria and Guinea Bissau where he also held discussions on peace in the sub-region.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs who met the delegation, said the UN delegation's visit was an encouragement to the ECOWAS peace initiatives.
He said it further demonstrated UN's recognition of the Accra Peace Talks on the Liberian conflict and Ghana's role in bringing peace to West Africa.
