Diaspora (Canada) GHANAIANS IN OTTAWA WANTS MORE ANSWERS FROM THE PRESIDENT TO THEIR QUESTIONS
NOV 22, 2011 LISTEN

Some section of Ghanaians resident in Ottawa-Canada was dissatisfied with some of the answers the president, John Evans Atta Mills gave to questions that were posted to him.

They believed the president would have provided better answers to some of the questions that were posted to him by telling them the solutions being implemented than identifying some of the problems making life very difficult for the ordinary Ghanaian.

President John Evans Atta Mills, as part of his visit to Ottawa-Canada on November 19, 2011, attended a town hall meeting at University of St. Paul, where he interacted with a cross section of Ghanaians resident in the area.

The president, on several occasions has been appealing to professional Ghanaians resident abroad to come home and use their expertise to contribute towards the building of the country.

Therefore when the platform was created, Mr. Eric Agyemang a board member of Algonquin College took advantage of it and asked the president what his government was also doing to tap the rich professional expertise that Ghanaians have acquired in diaspora to contribute towards the building of the nation which drew a large of applause from members gathered.

The gathering expected nothing less than adopted programme or policies being implemented to ensure that these Ghanaian professionals when returned to contribute towards the nation building can find comfort in the living system which was directly opposite as the president mentioned lack of job satisfaction as a main cause discouraging them from coming home.

According to him, not too long ago a programme was introduced where many of them came to Ghana but were discouraged about lack of job dissatisfaction which made them to go back to their foreign destinations.

“Infrastructural development such as the supply of portable water, electricity, good schools and more powerful judicial system will combine to give a job satisfaction that will encourage them to come and stay and when we have these things provided, trust me they will not need an invitation to come home and help”, he assured.

The first gentleman, observed the traffic jams in the country which makes workers and ordinary persons sometimes stays in a road traffic for over three hours which according to him also add up to job satisfaction and assured that he was going to look into it and see how best to solve the problem.

Another question to the president which to some attendants was not properly answered was posted by a lady who expressed her worry about the electricity crises due to intermittent power outage which she thought could be rectified by migrating majority of the populace unto solar energy system and wanted to know what the president was doing about that?

President Mills, shared his worry about the crisis with the crowd making them aware that solar energy programme is high on his list of programmes to implement saying,” former president Rawlings took the initiative by embarking on a pilot project, however government was concern about the cost involved but it is still looking into it”.

After the programme, some members who attended the town hall meeting openly complained about how short a time the interaction took which never gave opportunity to many residents who came with many questions to ask the president for answers.
