11.11.2011 LISTEN

Hohoe, Nov. 11, GNA - The Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Senior High School (HEPSS) would at the weekend climax its golden jubilee celebrations on the theme: “Quality Education-A Shared Responsibility of the Church, Government and the Local Community.”

As it marks the 50th milestone, the school is saddled with infrastructural deficits.

Ms Doris E. Afari, Headmistress of the School in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, catalogued infrastructural inadequacies in the area of staff accommodation as some of the problems affecting the smooth administration, supervision and quality education delivery.

She said staff accommodation is a major problem to the institution affecting teaching and learning.

“It is frustrating to note that there are only five bungalows that accommodate less than seven per cent of the total staff numbering 65 teaching and 50 non-teaching.”

HEPSS offers six academic programmes namely; general science, general arts, home economics, visual arts, business accounting and business secretarial.

Ms Afari said the school lack of means of transport to administer the 1,180 student population for academic and extra curricula activities.

On development projects, Ms Afari said the school's Parent-Teacher Association has constructed two four-unit classroom blocks with the Ghana Education Fund building a 120-capacity bed girl's dormitory.

She however observed that a housemistress's bungalow was absent in the contract, adding that considering the huge female enrolment, a 650 capacity bed dormitory would have been more appropriate.

The Headmistress commended central government and the municipal assembly for supporting quality education delivery especially the construction of access road for the academic facility.

Ms Afari said HEPSS continue to produce excellent academic results posting between 95 and 100 per cent in the last six years.

She said the school boasts of dazzling performance in sports and co-curricular activities, stating the next 50 years holds lots of prospects for the School.

The school's Old Student Association-HEPSSOSA, organizers of the anniversary has donated computers, typewriters, library books and other teaching and learning accessories to their alma mater.
