Cape Coast, Oct. 31, GNA - The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe over the weekend urged the citizens of Kissi live up to their responsibilities and give their children the best of education.
She said education was key to national development and that it was the only legacy a parent could give to his children to secure their future.
Mrs Benyiwa-Doe said this when she addressed the 10th anniversary celebration of the Baobab Children Foundation (BCF) a Non-governmental Organization based in Kissi-Kwahinkrom in the Komenda-Edina -Egufo-Abream (KEEA) District.
The Baobab Children Foundation was established in 2001 to help the poor and needy children get a better future and also to help those who have been neglected by families.
It gives training in organic farming, Cane and Bamboo works, Batik, tie and dye, Kente weaving and other forms of handicrafts to school drop outs.
The organization also operates a restaurant and a shop in Cape Coast where products from the training center are being sold and also serve as a practicals centre for those who are in the catering services.
Mrs Benyiwa-Doe who also used the occasion to donate five bails of used clothing, 30 bags of cement, five bags of maize and two bags of sugar to the institution, advised parents to plan their families, saying that this would give them the opportunity to take proper care of their children.
The Regional Minister who appreciated the works of the NGO promised to supply them with some electric poles and build fire belts to help curtail some of the challenges.
Ms Edith de Vos, Founder and owner of the NGO thanked the chiefs and people of Kissi for providing her with land to start the project, and said so far 64 of their 120 sponsored children had completed Junior High school with others in the SHS and the university.
Ms de Vos mentioned the lack of electricity at the centre and frequent bush fires as some of the challenges facing the centre, and appealed to the government to come to their aid.
