A Special Assistant to Convention People's Party (CPP)'s flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, on Saturday reprimanded Presidential Aide, Stanislave Dogbe, over what the former described as “politicising of floods” that hit parts of Greater Accra Region on Tuesday.
Mr Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, who is also a member of Dr Nduom's campaign team, criticised Mr Dogbe for giving the Presidential hopeful a one-week ultimatum to submit a proposal to end the perennial flooding of parts of Accra and its environs that claimed the lives of 12 and destroyed properties worth millions of cedis.
Speaking in a telephone interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra, Mr Asamoah-Siaw accused Mr Dogbe of downplaying the seriousness of such a national tragedy and rather 'play propaganda' with the issue.
Dr Nduom in a press release copied to the GNA on Thursday called on the Government to find a more proactive than reactive measure to deal with the perennial flooding stressing, 'We can plan land use better than we have done. We can build better drainage systems in flood prone areas with a greater sense of urgency.'
According to Mr Asamoah-Siaw, Mr Dogbe on Thursday evening made comments on Multi TV's political talk show,” Majority Caucus” in reaction to Dr Nduom's suggestions by deriding the CPP's aspiring flag bearer for failing to effectively handle the flooding situation when he was part of Former President Kufuor's government which stayed in power for eight years.
Mr Asamoah-Siaw said a Presidential Aide was supposed to help the President to solve national issues and not to “play politics and propaganda” with serious matters.
He however cautioned Mr Dogbe not to belittle Dr Nduom's suggestions to government adding, 'Nine ( now reported 12) people perished in the flood, you don't have to do propaganda with such a serious matter and tragedy as it was,' he said.
Mr Asamoah-Siaw said: 'Dr Nduom is a consultant to institutions, organisations and to Countries. If President Mills decides to commission Dr Nduom to assist in solving this issue, he will not hesitate to do it because he has the capability to do so.'
