MP to establish ICT learning centers in communities

The Member of Parliament (MP)  for Nkwanta-North, Mr. Joseph Kweku Nayan, has outlined plans to establish Information Communication Technology (ICT) training centers in selected communities in the area, to ensure that the youth in the remote parts of the region are not denied the opportunity of acquiring the relevant skills in ICT.

Mr. Nayan said this was to ensure that they were educated in computer studies just like their counterparts in the towns and cities, and that this was one area of interest where he be investing a chunk of the Common Fund, and disclosed that he had already put in place the necessary steps to ensure the early start of the project.

The MP, who was speaking in an interview with the Volta File at Kpassa, pointed out that the Nkwanta-North District was one of the deprived areas in the region, but the necessary efforts would be made to help bring the needed development to the people.

Mr. Nayan said under the computer training programme, he would personally employ instructors at the various training centers to be located at Kpassa, Damanko, Sibi and Tinjanse among others, to ensure that equal opportunities were given to the youth in the area without discrimination.

He said internet facilities would equally be attached to the training centers for the beneficiary youths to learn how to access the internet and make good use of it, to enable to learn about developments around the world, which he stressed, would enable them to work hard to meet the changing trend of development.

The MP pointed out that education was the only tool that could help bring about development, noting that the ICT training centers also aimed at assisting pupils and students in their studies because they could use the internet with the help of the instructors to improve upon their studies.

Mr. Nayan said he had already started securing some computers for the purpose, adding that the project which would take off soon.

He further stated that measures would be put in place to ensure that the knowledge acquired in ICT would not be used negatively, such as turning the centers into pornography watching centers, but rather use it to acquire skills that would be useful to society.

He said key institutions in the district would be provided with computers, including traditional offices, which have already been provided with computers, to ensure that these offices were properly equipped with ICT facilities.
