As part of its 5th Annual All Africa Service Project, members of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Koforidua district in the Eastern Region, over the weekend, embarked on a clean-up exercise at the Koforidua Regional Hospital.

The over five hours exercise, saw members, numbering about 200, clean in and around the hospital compound, which included weeding, sweeping and removing of cobwebs, they said formed part of the social responsibility of the church to the hospital.

Speaking to the Eastern File after the exercise, the District President of the church, Mr. Philip Ohene, explained that every year, at the same time, this kind of community work takes place simultaneously across the Africa continent.

The district office of the church, which comprises  Adweso, Suhum, Oyoko, Koforidua and Effiduase, decided to divide the area into three main groups, to enable them reach almost the various communities they fellowship in.

In view of that, members of the Suhum district went to the Suhum central market, while members from the Oyoko district also went to the Oyoko Methodist Senior High School to clean the school compound.

'We live in a community, and must always respect the environment we live in by keeping it clean, but not wait on the government and other agencies to come and do it for us,' he charged.

'People usually attend hospital with a minor sicknesses, but sometimes, end up carrying other sickness from the hospital, that is the more reason why our church, Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints, decided to come to this place today, to do this job.'

Mr. Philip Ohene continued, 'This hospital is a facility which benefits all of us, and we must all help to keep it clean always.'

The District President appealed to other churches to also channel some of their social responsibilities to help the communities within their operations, adding that what they had come to do was a demonstration to help the country in ensuring clean environments.
