AUG 3, 2011 LISTEN

New Juaben Association in Canada [NJAC] has condemned the trading of accusations and counter accusations among some chiefs in and around Koforidua which is heightening chieftaincy dispute in the area.

The association expresses its dismay about how some chiefs and their feuding faction's trades accusations and counter accusations in the media instead of using the proper procedures to solve whatever misunderstanding between them for peace and tranquility to prevail.

It made it clear that the give and take accusations of who should be the paramount chief of New Juaben Traditional Area is destroying the true colour of tradition and culture that the indigenes have enjoyed for a very long time, therefore calling on authorities to help solve the dispute for peace to prevail in the area.

The president of [NJAC] Mr. Richard Yeboah, was commenting about the seeming chieftaincy dispute raging between Daasebre Oti Boateng, omanhene of New Juaben and Odehyie Topen Srebuo Boateng at this year's annual picnic held on July 31, at Downs view park, Etobicoke City, Toronto.

Richard Yeboah, observed that New Juaben and for that matter Koforidua and its suburbs forming the New Juaben Traditional Area, is peaceful whiles the indigenes are also peace loving people who are so sympathetic and very accommodating who live peacefully among all people from other tribes.

Therefore the current chieftaincy disputes between the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area Daasebre Oti Boateng and Odehyie Topen Srebuo Boateng, is to some extent painting a different picture where if not solved amicably within the shortest possible time will destroy the beautiful culture and tradition of the area.

He was worried about the rate at which almost every week stories of accusations and counter accusations fill the airwaves telling residents living in the diaspora that there is tension back home.

Members of the association always pray for peace and development to prevail in our indigenous hometowns forming the New Juaben area, as we urge people to take up investment opportunities there too. But how can this be achieved if the chiefs are fight amongst themselves over the stool.

“We are very accommodating, united and even get on well with other people from different tribes in Ghana all living in Toronto. Look around, every year apart from our own New Juaben members we receive other persons at our barbeque to celebrate together.

“If we are not united and have been fighting among ourselves as to who should be the chairman, secretary, and what have you do you think we would have been able to first of all organize this event for us to renew our love for one another every year” he quizzed.

Richard Yeboah, pointed out to the chiefs and their feuding factions that, in this modern day world, no investor will invest in an area where there is chieftaincy disputes.

So if they want investors in the area then they should first of all solve their differences, come together as one people to attract the investors for successful businesses which will go a long way to better improve the lives of the citizenry.

Members of the association treated themselves to all kinds of Ghanaian dishes as well as danced to Ghanaian songs whiles others also enjoyed all kinds of games to celebrate this years annual picnic.
