DCE advises Sefwi Chiefs to unite to promote development

Takoradi, July 30,GNA -- The District Chief Executive for Sefwi-Wiawso, Mr. Stephen Wilks Kofi Mensah, has called on the Tradtional Councils in Sefwi-Wiawso to unite to accelerate the development of the area.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Takoradi, he noted that the chiefs, going solo to seek individual interests for their areas rather have the tendency to retard development and progress.

To facilitate development, therefore, the DCE underscored the need for them to come together to pursue a common purpose and entreated them to endeavour to release land for investors to operate in order to open up the area to the outside world.

Mr Mensah said for instance, the area abounds in rich mineral resources, foreign exchange crops such as cocoa and other cash crops and the recent oil discovery which requires that they market area in their own small way to attract investors to the area to enhance the socio-economic status of the people.

He commended Chirano Gold Limited for undertaking a number of developmental projects in the district, which had partially improved the livelihoods of the people in the area,

Touching on the water situation in Sefwi-Wiawso Township, Mr. Mensah noted that the Interim Management Committee of Small Town Water System, reconstituted in May last year, had paid off GH¢13,500 owed the Electricity Company of Ghana.

The IMC had also realized GH¢36,520.15 as credit balance in its account because of good management practices, “he added.

He said it was the first time in the history of Small Town Water System that the IMC has rendered account, pointing out that the IMC was in the process of constructing a borehole in one of the communities to improve water delivery.

The DCE said the IMC had purchased a motorbike worth GH¢ 2,000 to augment its fleet in ensuring regular monitoring of its operations.
