Accra, June 29, GNA – Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, on Wednesday assured the chiefs and people of Weija that rehabilitation of the five kilometre Weija Junction-Weija Township road would begin soon.
He said preparations were underway for the work to begin to abate the inconvenience the people had endured.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo gave the assurance when four chiefs from Weija paid a courtesy call on him to discuss issues relating to the development of the community.
He pointed out that the road network for the community had been neglected for a long period making it uncomfortable for commuters who ply the road, therefore the Ministry had initiated measures to solve the perennial problem.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo appealed to the people to exercise patience whilst the work was being completed.
Nii Boafo Danyina Nse, Acting Chief of Weija and Dzaase Tse, expressed his gratitude to the Minister for the response to their plight, saying the community would forever be indebted to him for his support.
He said other problems in the community, in addition to the deplorable road network, were lack of school, market, clinic, public place of convenience and proper management of the landfill site in the area.
Nii Danyina Nse urged the Minister not to relent in his efforts at ensuring development of the community since it was one of the major communities which provided potable water for over five million people in Accra.
