Kpong, May 30, GNA – Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from the Lower Manya Constituency on Monday demonstrated against their Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Michael Teye Nyaunu, for what they described as his disrespect to the President.
The demonstrators, wearing black and red attire, marched through the main streets of Kpong, Agormanya and to the premises of the Lower Manya District Assembly where they presented a petition to Mr Isaac Tetteh Agbo, District Chief Executive.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency one of the organisers of the demonstration, Mr Dominic Famous Atenutsui, Kpong Zongo Chairman of the NDC, said their action was intended to inform President John Evans Atta Mills that the people of the area were not in support of Mr Nyaunu's disrespectful behaviour.
He assured the President that they are solidly behind him to execute the “Better Ghana Agenda” and that they would do everything possible to prevent Mr Nyaunu from undermining him.
According to Mr Atenutsui, what the MP was doing was not in the interest of the people of Lower Manya but for his own interest.
The demonstrators called for the immediate resignation of the MP.
“We do not want Mr Nyaunu to be our representative again, so the earlier he resigns, for a new person to take over from him the…better.”
The demonstrators carried placards some of which read; “Nyaunu should respect the President,” and “Nyaunu must be probed….”
