NDC-USA ELECTS NEW CHAPTER EXECUTIVES AT ANNUAL CONGRESS IN HERNDON, VIRGINIA

The United States Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC-USA) has elected new executive offices to manage the affairs of the organization for the next two years.

The elections took place at its Annual Congress in Herndon, Virginia under the theme; Elections 2012, AN NDC VICTORY BASED ON ACHEIVEMENTS, HARDWORK AND UNITY.

The elected officers are as follows; Prof. Agyenim Boateng – Chairman; Mr. Prince Evar- Agyeman, Nii Ashiboi Armah, Prof. Rasheed Agwedicham, Alhaji Abass Adamu, and Mr. Appiah-Ankrah were elected as the Vice Chairpersons of the organization. Mr. Osborne K. Sam and Mr. Charles Kpodzo were re-elected as Secretary and Vice Secretary respectively. Mr. Seth Sintim and Mr. Lawrence Appiah were elected as Treasurer and Financial Secretary respectively. Ms. Hafsata Yakubu and Ms. Grace Imo were elected as Women's Organizer and Deputy Women's Organizer whilst the position of Organizer and Deputy Organizer were taken by Mr. Samuel Benson Agyapong and Mr.Ed Kraku.

Mr. Martin Wenya and Mr. Richmond Nettey were elected as Youth Organizer and Deputy Youth Organizer respectively.

Mr. George Lawson, the Deputy General Secretary (Operations) and Mad. Ama Sarpongmaa (Ashanti Regional Organizer) represented the NDC, as the Keynote speaker and the Special Guest respectively. Ghana's Ambassador to the United States of America, His Excellency Daniel Ohene-Agyekum was the Guest of Honor. Speaking at the event Ambassador Ohene-Agyekum proclaimed his innocence concerning claims published by sections of the media that he was party to some illegal acquisition of real estate in the United States, he challenged his detractors to provide any verifiable evidence beyond the mere unsubstantiated allegations they have been making. He also implored the media to give equal access to all parties especially in cases when the reputation of individuals was being attacked. Concerning the impending Special Congress of the Party which is slated to elect the party's flag bearer and leader on July 8th and 9th, 2011 in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo he stated that, “it is important that the party that emerges in the aftermath of the congress as a unified political entity which speaks with one voice”. He appealed to all members of the party to avoid throwing invectives at each other and avoid a recriminatory approach to dealing with each other.

On his part the Deputy General Secretary of NDC, Mr. George Lawson assured the meeting that the party was doing all in its power to ensure that the party emerges after the Congress with a unified front. He assured concerned members of the party that the NDC was working to deepen internal democracy. Mr. Lawson answered questions from members and also swore the elected executives into office. Mad Sarpomaa on her part oversaw the electoral process ensuring that in all aspects the elections was smooth, transparent and fair.

In attendance at the Congress were leaders and members from NDC USA's member branches in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Colorado, Ohio, and Washington DC Metro area, Maryland, Florida and Pennsylvania. Although they were unable to send delegates, the Georgia and Illinois branches sent solidarity messages to the Congress. The Congress also appreciated a strong solidarity message from the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter.

The NDC USA remains grateful for all who worked to ensure a successful Congress deserving mention in this regard is the tireless efforts of the chairman of NDC Virginia, Mr. Dotse and Mr. Desire Ankah, the branch's former secretary; and Mr. Ahiable, Mr. Ahijah and Mr. Essel Mensah who formed the Electoral Committee.

The Chairman of NDC-USA, Prof. Agyenim Boateng announced after his election that he will do all in his power to invigorate and ensure that the NDC USA continues growing from strength to strength.
