Daniel Ashiaku Akushie has finally stepped down on the fourth round of elections, for Desmond Nii Addo Biney to take over as Presiding Member for the recently inaugurated Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

According to Mr. Akushie, former Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, having to vote four times for a presiding member, to him, was a waste of time, so he found it necessary to step down, since his other contestant always gained more votes than him.

He said even though his opponent always gained more votes, it was 'unfortunate a winner was not declared, for the reason that the winner must gain two-thirds of the total number of members' votes, which total stands at 140, as required by the law.'

Even as he stepped down, the members of the assembly were also given the opportunity to cast their votes, as to whether or not to accept his decision.

Out of the 122 votes cast, 116 accepted the decision, while 6 did not. 7 of the members were absent as well.

That means Nii Addo Biney was finally sworn in as the Presiding Member, since this time he got two thirds of the members to accept his contestant's decision.

Mr. Desmond Nii Addo Biney, therefore, showed appreciation to all the members of the house for their support and votes.

He also thanked the Mayor for his contribution, and said he was going to work together with him in making Accra a Millennium City.
