THE MEMBER of Parliament of Techiman North and former Minister of Ports, Railways and Harbour, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has offered to register about 200 returnees from Libya with the National Health Insurance Scheme.
This, he said, would enable them access free medical care.
Speaking to the returnees in his residence, Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi, a royal of the Ohene Ameyaw Stool, said one could go about his daily activities to earn a living, when he or she was healthy, adding that it was when one was sick that he became a burden to his family.
Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi said the returnees should thank God for bringing them home safely since some of their colleagues were still in Libya.
Touching on discipline, Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi said the returnees should comport themselves and avoid any act of indiscipline so that they could gain the respect of society.
He told the returnees not to feel dejected because there were opportunities for them in Ghana.
He also charged them to avoid the use of hard drugs since the future belonged to them.
In his view, hard drugs had destroyed many young men and women in this country, adding, 'Instead of spending your time on hard drugs, you should spend your time doing something useful'.
He also advised them to be wary of politicians who might use them to achieve their political goals.
Some of the returnees who spoke at the meeting thanked the MP for the timely advice and promised to be of good behaviour and work hard to survive even though the situation was difficult.
One of the returnees, Fred Amoh, told DAILY GUIDE in an interview that he was encouraged by what the MP had said, adding that he was going to cultivate tomatoes since it was through such a venture that he was able to get money to travel to Libya.
He noted that he wouldn't go back to Libya because of the trauma he experienced.
Meanwhile, the returnees have formed an association to champion the cause of their members and also help some of their members who have skills to acquire jobs.
