The Accra Metropolitan Assembly is to deploy police and fire service personnel to enforce its by-laws against street hawking.

They will be working with the assembly's metro guards to arrest those who flout the by-laws which come into force from Friday.

Public Relations Officer of the AMA, Numo Blafo told Joy News the assembly intends to start enforcing the by-laws on the ceremonial streets in the national capital.

The areas to be affected in the first phase of the exercise include the airport area, polo court, First Light at Kaneshie, Sakaman Junction to Malam Junction and the road in front of the Ministry of Defence.

Mr Blafo said any commuter who wants to buy something can better do that from a shop and not on the streets.

He said selling was not done on the streets and asked the hawkers to be advised accordingly.
