MTN Ghana has earmarked GHC85,000 worth of free mobile phones, credit and SIM cards for all 15,000 Ghanaians expected to return from Libya.

The company has already given phones, SIM cards and free credit to 53 of the 55 who arrived a few days back and also to the second batch of 99 who arrived on Tuesday March 1, 2011.

Mr. Samuel Adjei-Sah, is the Senior Manager for Sales Development and Support at MTN Ghana he told Adom News that the gesture was part of MTN's commitment to supporting government to reintegrate the returnees into society.

“As a business we understand that those who will arrive from Libya would need phones, SIM cards or credit to call family and inform them that they have arrived safely so we decided to help by providing these things for free,” he said.

He noted that all 15,000 expected returnees would get free SIM cards with an initial GHC1 credit, saying that those who do not have phones would be given phones but those who have would get free credit and chip to contact family.

“They also get to send free SMS to their families and those who keep and use their SIM Cards for one month will also get 50 per cent bonus on every MTN credit they recharge,” he said.

Mr. Adjei-Sah said that being the number mobile phone company in Ghana, MTN felt they had a duty to make such an important intervention in such trying moment in the life of the country.

He said MTN would continue to investment a substantial part of the revenue they generate in Ghana into ventures that make life better for Ghanaians.
