Heavy duty trucks will from now on be stopped from plying the roads after 6pm.

This is according to a directive issued by the Inspector General of Police Paul Tawiah Quaye.

The directive follows the recent fatal accidents on the country's roads some of which have been blamed on huge trucks.

Director of Police Public relations, Superintendent Kwesi Ofori said the imposition of the ban was informed by flagrant violation of traffic regulations by heavy duty truck drivers.

Supt. Ofori said drivers of such vehicles bullied the drivers of smaller vehicles causing accidents on the highways.

He said the police administration hopes to reduce accidents and save lives through the measure.

The Police PRO said the decision was not permanent and that it will be reviewed depending on the situation.
