FA Cup upsets begin, Premier sides set to join
28.12.2010 LISTEN

The possibility of having more shock upsets in the MTN FA Cup looms as some lower tier clubs progress past the Preliminary Round while some established sides fall off in the first round stage.

Clubs like DC Utd, All Stars FC, Berekum Friction, Kintampo Zamalek, Atebubu Esperance, Mighty Youngsters, Ajax, Cheetah FC, Elmina Sharks, K.F.C. FC, Mighty Heroes and Shark FC all from the Second Division Leagues would keep high, the hopes of their local communities as the Cup competition progresses.

The FA Cup by its tradition always involves clubs from all tiers of the Ghana league system playing against each other for the ultimate trophy.

Forty-seven sides have qualified from the Preliminary Round with one slot remaining as Tuesday's game involving King Solomon and Hot Steel FC would decide which side advances with the rest to the next stage of the competition.

The Round of 64 would see the 16 Premier League sides enter the competition which would be drawn live on January 7, 2011.

Having passed the chance of possibly claiming a Cup glory, some of the established sides who have fallen would now have to concentrate on their league campaigns.

And one of the early Cup causalities was Tema Youth. The former Premier League side's hopes of advancing in the competition was crushed after two goals by attacker Alex Anim sealed Sporting Mirren's place in the next round in a 2-0 win on Boxing Day.

Also out of the competition are Sekondi Hasaacas - relegated to the Division One League last season, Medeama - competed in the play-offs for a place in the Premier League, Guan Utd, Vipers, Tema All Stars and Tete Atenpong.
