DEMOCRACY AND COMMON SENSE

DEMOCRACY AND COMMON SENSE
15.12.2010 LISTEN

§ 1. INTRODUCTION
The Akan people of Ghana must understand that they have a responsibility to lead the way to usher Ghana into the enlightenment mood and spirit. This thinking, I have repeated it on sundry occasions in my work, and unless these are people so much confused and had neglected reading, they would easily catch the points I have presented in my numerous articles already presented. Their significant roles in the history of the ancient worlds, and in the region of Africa during the recent centuries, should do well to remind them in order to mediate their necessary roles at present to lift this country to what it stands for. The culture of tolerance and the self-confidence, which their past leaders showed in the world, give us a course to sound the warning that if they neglect to do their work, in terms of uniting as a strong group to put the country forward in its steps toward progressive development and enlightenment, they and their descendants shall face a future of turbulence.

The paper has the purpose of calling the attention of scholars that have the future of this country on their hearts to come forward, and to help plan a better future for the citizens of Ghana. They should not leave the work concerning developments for politicians alone, as many of these politicians are not serious, and are fortunate ruffians that may have interests not conducive for the country as it stands. Obsession with power for the hear and now is not good, it may lead the country to be blind concerning some essential developments, which its neglect could pose a serious threat to the future of this nation and its citizens. Finally, the article is for those whose sunshine is shining now, and do not know when it will shine again as soon as the current shinning is over, to recognise that Ghana needs to move forward and whether it is done with the choice of language or not, the Akan one shall eventually overthrow all other languages and win as the future legitimate language.

§ 2. COMMON SENSE
Being a member of the Akan group, the author sees himself as civilised, tolerant, and unlike some other groups, believes in the wisdom involved in the deliberation of an important issue before a conclusion or a decision can be reached. The author is not advocating for the imposition of one language in Ghana, but deliberation leading to a vote of those members selected by the people to work as parliamentarians. If at the end of the day, the votes gained more than fifty percent, then it would be carried and this will be the time when one language such as Akan would be considered. We care little about those who may disagree, since in terms of democracy, the votes of the majority count, and those who do not want can do what they think is appropriate. Unfortunately, the Akans as a people had never had a strong leader to advocate for this use of common sense knowledge, but I believe soon this will be dealt with easily. And I am repeating again that, the Akans are numerous in the country and the day God blesses them to get the right kind of leader, this assignment will be dealt with coolly, and those who are against cannot do a thing! For those that had shown that they are against the utilisation of Akan as the original language for this country were not original groups living in Ghana from the beginning. And just as the Germans could take some decisions which may not have or required the positive response of immigrants, so can Ghana and the Akana people make their decisions concerning the use of Akan in the country at the appropriate time through parliamentary proceedings.

§ 3. Europeans' experience
Unlike so many people, I have provided a new and convincing argument for the utilisation of independence of Ghana by advocating a complete break with history so as to have a unified country through the common sense use of Akan. Note that all the countries in Europe had different tribes like you do at present, but all at one time saw it convenient to use the language of the majority to help them achieve their unity. As I have reiterated, in the 13-15th century onwards, Britain and many other nations had earlier learned the secret, that, it is not convenient to live with certain minorities who may be historically aggressive, not well polished, not educated, their view of human being's worth not quite advanced, or have brute culture, so that the best they could do was to integrate them wholly into their group while allowing them to use only the majority's language in order to help unify and civilise them. In Ghana, for example, the threat of Hollywood war looms as former presidents still believe that they could push their wives into politics again, and by so doing could get hold of the oil money.

According to my own measurement, no one sees anything wrong with it, down from traditional leaders to intellectuals, exactly just like Major A. A. Afrifa one time wrote his historic letter about another ruffian which Ghanaians acted stupid, and did nothing about it; but instead ridiculed him in public by publishing this confidential letter to the country in the newspapers. If that happens, through collaboration with a War Patron, these ruffians could put the large feeble majority under subjection while they steal their oil and minerals money with little money going into the bank accounts of these fortunate ruffian leaders alone. Below, I provide examples of three nations, that is, Britain, Sweden, and Germany to help you comprehend that these nations had different tribes just like Ghana does, but at the appropriate time they integrated their tribes in order to become one independent nation.

§ 4. The Tribes of Wales
It has been established that before the time of the Roman invasion of Britain, the area of modern Wales had been divided among these tribes, which include the Deceangli, Ordovices, Cornovii, Demetae, and Silures for centuries (cf. Wikipedia).

§ 5. Scotish Tribes
In old Scotland, Ptolemy's tribes located north of the Forth-Clyde isthmus include the Cornovii in Caithness, the Caereni, Smertae, Carnonacae, Decantae, Lugi and Creones also north of the Great Glen, the Taexali in the north-east, the Epidii in Argyll, the Venicones in Fife, the Caledonii in the central Highlands and the Vacomagi centred near Strathmore. It is likely that all of these cultures spoke a form of Celtic language known as Pritennic. The occupants of southern Scotland were the Damnonii in the Clyde valley, the Novantae in Galloway, the Selgovae on the south coast and the Votadini to the east. These peoples may have spoken a form of Brythonic language (cf. Wikipedia).

§ 6. Swedish Tribes
In Sweden, in the 6th century a scholar by Jordanes named two tribes he calls the Suehans and the Suetidi who lived in Scandza. These two names are both considered to refer to the same tribe. The Suehans, he says, has very fine horses just as the "Thyringi" tribe (alia vero gens ibi moratur Suehans, quae velud Thyringi equis utuntur eximiis). The scholar Snorri Sturluson wrote long time ago that the contemporary Swedish king Adils (Eadgils) had the finest horses of his days. The Suehans were the suppliers of black fox skins for the Roman market. Then Jordanes names the Suetidi which is considered to be the Latin form of Svitjod. He writes that the Suetidi are the tallest of men together with the Dani who were of the same stock. Later he mentions other Scandinavian tribes for being of the same height.

Originating in semi-legendary Scandza, believed to be somewhere in modern Götaland, Sweden, a Gothic population had crossed the Baltic Sea before the 2nd century AD, reaching Scythia at the coast of the Black Sea in modern Ukraine where Goths left their archaeological traces in the Chernyakhov culture. In the 5th and 6th centuries, they became divided as the Visigoths and the Ostrogoths, and established powerful successor-states of the Roman Empire in the Iberian Peninsula and Italy (Ibid.)

§ 7. German Tribes
It is understood that in the 3rd century saw the emergence of a number of large West Germanic tribes: Alamanni, Franks, Chatti, Saxons, Frisians, Sicambri, and Thuringii. Around 260, the Germanic peoples broke through the Limes and the Danube frontier into Roman-controlled lands.

Six great German tribes, accordingly took part in the fragmentation and the collapse of the Western Roman Empire (cf. Wikipedia): the Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Vandals, Burgundians, Lombards and the Franks

Aside from these major tribes we have already mentioned, there were other numerous groups in these countries roaming about into others territories just as we currently have them in Ghana.

§. 8. Otto Von Bismarck and Unification of Germany

In Germany, one of the greatest leaders who lived on their soil helped unified the country. As a matter of fact to prevent the Austro-Hungarian problems of different nationalities within one state, the government of Germany tried to Germanize the state's national minorities, situated mainly in the borders of the empire, such as the Danes in the North of Germany, the French of Alsace-Lorraine, and the Poles in the East of Germany (cf. Wikipedia).

Bismarck the great was a kind fellow, who became very apprehensive just like many thoughtful Ghanaians concerning the future of modern Germany, and so “his policies concerning the Poles of Prussia were generally unfavourable to them, furthering enmity between the German and Polish peoples. The policies were usually motivated by Bismarck's view that Polish existence was a threat to the German state; Bismarck, who himself spoke Polish, wrote about Poles: "One shoots the wolves if one can." He also said: "Beat Poles until they lose faith in a sense of living. Personally, I pity the situation they're in. However, if we want to survive - we've got only one option - to exterminate them.

However, through this great leader's vision, Germany like many other European countries is today a unified country, which Ghana wants to emulate.
