WHO KILLED THE EDITOR OF Ghanaian Voice?

1/31/2003 -

Right after the New Year break, the late Mr.Dan Ansah, (May He Rest In Peace) and I were in his office. We had a wide range of discussions pertaining to the NPP and their attempts to 'silence' him. He told me categorically that Kufuor and the NPP want him killed. This is his story.

He has had strange cars chasing after him, strange men laying ambush at his house in Dansoman and at the Voice Publications at Kaneshie First Light. Some deliberately 'rammed' their vehicles into his at obscure junctions and taking flight. He has been receiving ominous threatening phone calls. Then came the shocker.

In light of free speech granted by 1992 Constitution and in view of Kufuor's trumpeted abolition of Criminal Libel Laws, he never expected to be 'arrested' by the police for publishing a letter from government. At the Police CID Headquarters, an officer told him, Dan Ansah, that his arrest was ordered from the Castle and the "BIG MAN OMANPANYIN" wants the police to "deal" with him. Knowing fully well that Dan had recently had a heart Operation, he was nevertheless made to climb up flight of stairs from the first to the fifth, down to the first and back to the fifth and many times more with no purpose. Eventually, he was released and the BBC and VOA came to interview him. Government then panicked. Foreign Ambassadors came to interview him.

Then came Nana Akufo Addo, Attorney General and Gifty Afenyi Dadzie, President of Journalists Association, to tell him that the government did not intend to jail him for the publication. The late Editor then pointedly told Akufo-Addo he knew Kufuor wants him dead by using unorthodox means and so he will not forgive Kufuor for getting the police to make someone like him who had just come out of Heart Operation climb stairs at CID Headquarters so many times.

A few days later, Dan was back on his hospital bed at 37 Military where one Dr. Frimpong, failed to attend to him for 3 days.

Dan Ansah now lies dead. Death comes in many forms. It is not only by firing squad. The following questions arise:

Knowing that Dan Ansah has recently been released from a Heart Operation, was it prudent to cause the oldman to climb up five flights of stairs several times at the CID Headquarters? WHO KILLED DAN ANSAH, EDITOR OF THE GHANAIAN VOICE?

Death has laid its icy hands on Dan Ansah, but his spirit lives on. Those responsible for his death think they have won a victory, but it is only pyrrhic. They think they have won a battle but the war goes on and Dan Ansah's SPIRIT lives on! We, at the GHANAIAN VOICE, will keep Dan Ansah's work in full bloom!

Damirifa due, Dan Ansah! You are safe in God's arms. We shall carry on the fight!
