The Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs has mounted pressure on the Ghana Police Service to immediately arrest Inusah Yakubu, who allegedly beat his 30-year old wife to death at Bawku.

'The Ministry calls on the police in Bawku to undertake a serious search for Inusah Yakubu, so that he can assist in investigations into the circumstances which led to the death of Hamida', noted the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs in a statement signed and released yesterday by sector Minister, Mrs. Juliana Azumah-Mensah.

Inussah Yakubu, a resident of Tensungo, a suburb of Bawku, is reported to have beaten his wife, Hamida Abdullai into unconsciousness, as a result of a quarrel which ensued between the couple last Thursday, September 23, 2010. Hamida was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.

However, Inusah Yakubu, on sensing danger of what awaits him, has since gone into hiding. Inusah Yakubu is said to have been persistently beating his wife, compelling her to sometimes run away to her family house.

This, the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs sees as outrageous, and has ordered for his immediate arrest.

The Ministry, however, entreats families to take keen interest in ensuring that marital problems among their family members were properly resolved.

It also called on families to report issues of violence to the police, before such incidents degenerate into unacceptable deaths, such as in the case of Hamida.

'We all have a collective responsibility to ensure that such acts of violence and abuse is checked within our communities', noted Mrs. Julian Azumah-Mensah.
