Driver remanded for causing harm

Kumasi , June 30, GNA - A 22-year-old driver accused of inflicting deep cutlass wounds on two friends has been ordered to be held on remand by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Abdul Mumuni denied the offence of causing unlawful harm and would re-appear on July 14.

Six others, who are said to have aided him to commit the crime, are on the run.

Police Chief Inspector Rejoice Sumatu told the Court, presided by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, that the complainants, Alhassan Abubakar, 24, and Musah Mohammed, 20, are friends living at Santasi and Akwatia Line, respectively.

On June 21, at about 2300 hours, Abubakar went to buy a cup of tea from a beverage selling joint, where the accused and the six others were watching television.

Unknowing to Abubakar, he had blocked their view and this angered Mumuni, who engaged him in a scuffle, during which the accused stabbed him in the eyebrow.

The victim informed Musah and the two decided to arrest and hand him to the Police.

As they went in for Mumuni, the six joined him to attack the complainants, inflicting deep cutlass wounds on Mohammed's head.

The prosecution said a report was made to the Police and the accused was arrested.

Police Chief Inspector Sumatu said Mumuni admitted the offence in his caution statement.
